How to File a UPI Complaint Step by Step?

You can file a UPI complaint by following these steps:

Step 1: Go to the UPI Dispute Redressal Mechanism page.

Step 2: Scroll down to the “Complaint” section.

Step 3: Select the tab related to your complaint (Transaction, PIN, Account, Registration, SMS, Login, Others).

Step 4: Select the “Nature of the transaction” (person to person, person to merchant) and “Issue type”

Step 5: Enter your bank name, transaction ID, UPI ID, amount, transaction date, email ID, and other required information.

Step 6: Provide your registered mobile number, and attach a copy of your updated account statement.

Common UPI Transaction Issues

Most UPI users eventually face some sort of transaction issue. Sometimes, these issues are caused by technical glitches, bank downtimes, incorrect UPI PINs, insufficient balance, incorrect details of the receiver, and poor internet connection. 

These problems usually either get resolved on their own or once the user enters the correct details. But sometimes users may need to raise a complaint to resolve issues during transactions such as:

  • Amount debited but not credited to beneficiary’s account

  • Transaction failed by amount debited

  • Incorrectly transferred to another account

  • Transaction timed out but the amount debited from the account

  • Fraudulent transaction

  • Transaction pending

  • Transaction not permitted

  • Transaction declined

  • Threshold exceeded

Users may also face PIN, account, registration, or SMS-related problems.

For these issues, you can use the UPI dispute redressal mechanism. If the problem is still not resolved, you can approach the banking ombudsman or the ombudsman for digital complaints.

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is an instant payment system developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), an RBI regulated entity. UPI is built over the IMPS infrastructure and allows you to instantly transfer money between any two parties' bank accounts.
UPI-PIN (UPI Personal Identification Number) is a 4-6 digit pass code you create/set during first time registration with this App. You have to enter this UPI-PIN to authorize all bank transactions. If you have already set up an UPI-PIN with other UPI Apps you can use the same on BHIM. (Note: Banks issued MPIN is different from the UPI UPI-PIN, please generate a new UPI-PIN in the BHIM app) Note: Please do not share your UPI-PIN with anyone. BHIM does not store or read your UPI-PIN details and your bank's customer support will never ask for it.
In case you enter the wrong UPI PIN , the transaction will fail. In case you input the wrong UPI PIN multiple times, bank may temporarily block sending money using UPI from my account (this varies from bank to bank)
In such a case, please ensure that the mobile number linked to your bank account is same as the one verified in any UPI App. If it is not the same, your bank accounts will not be fetched by the UPI platform.
When you shop-online, you can pay through UPI when you see UPI as a payment option. On clicking that, you will need to enter your Payment Address (eg - xyz@upi). Once entered, you will receive a collect request on your BHIM app. Enter your UPI-PIN here and your payment will be complete. As easy as this!
